Narita International Airport

Narita is well outside central Tokyo, so plan more travel time than you expect. It has three terminals; Terminal 1 has its own station, while Terminals 2 and 3 share another.

01Terminals and stations

Terminal 1 is served by Narita Airport Station. Terminals 2 and 3 are served by Airport Terminal 2 Building Station.

Terminal 3 has no station of its own. From T3, take the free shuttle to T2 for trains, or use a bus that departs from T3.

02Trains into Tokyo

The official access page lists the Keisei Skyliner (towards Nippori and Keisei Ueno), the Keisei Access Express and Keisei lines, and JR’s Narita Express (towards Tokyo, Shinagawa and Shibuya).

Pick by where your hotel is: the Narita Express reaches Tokyo, Shinagawa and Shibuya directly; the Skyliner reaches Nippori and Ueno. Fares, seat reservation rules and timetables change, so check the operators.

Reserved-seat limited express trains stop running in the late evening. Check the last departures before you book a late arrival.

03Moving between terminals

A free shuttle bus connects the three terminals in the public area. It is not an airside connection, so leaving the secure area to change terminals means going through security again.

Allow extra time when your onward flight leaves from a different terminal.

04Buses, taxis and late arrivals

Buses run to many parts of Tokyo and the surrounding area, and traffic can make journey times uncertain. Taxis to central Tokyo are expensive; get a fare estimate from the official taxi desk.

If you arrive late, decide before landing whether you can still catch a train, and book a nearby hotel if not.

05Before you fly

Confirm your terminal for the exact flight and date. Terminals are assigned by airline and can change.

Look for baggage storage, lockers, lounges and nurseries on the official site and note whether they are before or after security.
