01Terminals 2, 3, 4 and 5

Check your terminal before you set off. Airlines can be moved between terminals.

Heathrow has three railway stations: one for Terminals 2 and 3, one for Terminal 4 and one for Terminal 5.

02Trains to central London

The Elizabeth line serves Heathrow and the Heathrow Express is the fast service to Paddington. The Piccadilly line (Underground) also serves the airport.

Check which stations each service calls at. Heathrow Express serves Terminals 2 and 3 and Terminal 5; for Terminal 4, the official page says to change at Terminals 2 and 3.

03Travelling between terminals

If you are not flying, or have booked two separate flights, the official guide says free Heathrow Express or Elizabeth line trains run between terminals; get a free inter-terminal transfer ticket from the station ticket machines.

The official page gives an average of about 20 minutes between Terminals 2 and 3 and Terminal 5, and about 30 minutes to Terminal 4. Allow generous time if you change terminal on separate tickets.

04Arriving and connecting

Follow the signs for your type of journey. A through ticket and separate tickets are treated differently, so ask your airline about baggage and rechecking.

Check passport and entry requirements for the UK well before you travel.

05Before you fly

Work out your station and walking route, since the terminals and stations are not all in one place.

Look for lounges, food and rest areas on the official site, and note before and after security.
